Winters Discontinuing Ultralight Sprint Car Axles
After carefully considering a wide range of factors, Winters Performance Products, Inc. will no longer produce Ultralight axles for Sprint cars.
Our number one priority is and has always been the safety of the drivers, teams and fans who participate in our sport, and the health and growth of the sport itself. Sprint car components are exposed to some of the harshest conditions of any type of racing. While in the past Ultralight axles have been proven to be reliable and able to withstand the rigors of short track racing, due to the excessive amount of brake heat the axles are exposed to with today’s braking components, increased horsepower, and the way the cars must be driven to be competitive, we believe it’s in the best interest of the sport that Ultralight axles no longer be used. Although moving to a thicker-wall axle will mitigate some of the factors that can lead to failure, it would be impossible to eliminate that possibility entirely given the extreme conditions these components are exposed to.
